TREMONT STUDIOS: ART + HISTORY

The 128-page book is a beautiful, colourful journey that chronicles the history of the Tremont House as a former railway hotel built in 1889 to its present-day restoration as an artistic hub home to 12 artists. The origins of this book took root in the early winter months of 2021 during yet another long COVID-19 lockdown. The 12 current Tremont artists came together as a collaborative group and envisioned a book that would pay homage to the building, document its past and preserve its future.

Tremont Studios: Art & History showcases the unique and varied artwork in full-colour spreads and in full detail of the Tremont's talented studio artists: John Wallace Burton, Jane Fleetwood-Morrow, Bill Franks, Lisa Hannaford, Kaz Jones, Anke Lex, Kara McIntosh, Andrew Peycha, Patricia Russell, Jim Stacey, Bryan Wall, and Jenn Wilkins.

One of Canada's preeminent painters John Hartman having visited the Tremont Studios accurately describes the experience one has in the space - "All art is local at its point of origin, and seeing the art, the artist and their workshop creates a context for their work, which makes the experience of seeing it more engaging and fulfilling." In the book's foreword, written by former Toronto Mayor and current Collingwood resident, John Sewell, an advocate for historic architectural preservation, states "Artists, of course, make the vision of the Tremont come alive...their creativity is critical to the Tremont's success."

It is this creativity and collaboration that make the Tremont Studios: Art & History a keepsake book to behold and treasure.
